WHAT IS BIG BROTHERS BIG SISTERS?

Big Brothers Big Sisters Across Canada: Big Brothers Big Sisters of Canada is a Federation comprised of 111 member agencies servicing more than 1000 communities across the country. Each Big Brother/Big Sister agency provides direct service to children by matching adults and children in quality mentoring relationships. Our agency staff members are experts at screening volunteers and matching them with a child having similar interests.

The national organization provides services and programs to our member agencies to assist them with their hands-on work with parents, children, and volunteers. Ranging from staff training workshops to our leading Child Safety Program, which includes an emphasis on sexual abuse prevention, BBBSC works diligently to ensure that program quality is superior in all parts of the country.

It costs roughly $1500 to facilitate one match per year in the traditional match program, and there are currently 61 kids waiting to get matched with a positive role model. Let’s give them a hand by donating generously.

WE BELIEVE IN THE VALUE OF MENTORING.

Studies show that mentoring helps kids stay in school, avoid risky behavior such as bullying, and grow up having respect for family, peers, and community.

WE KNOW FROM EXPERIENCE.

Serving as role models, Traditional Match Mentors and ISM Mentors teach by example the importance of giving back, staying in school and having respect for family, peers and community.

Witnessing the transformation of a child into a confident, concerned and motive young person is a remarkable thing. Ushering them into adulthood, seeing them grow into a successful, responsible member of their community can be even more satisfying.

For both mentor and mentee, the experience becomes a life-changing relationship built on friendship, trust, and empowerment.

WHO CAN BE A MENTOR?

You can! Being a Mentor is about being a friend and someone to look up to. It’s about hanging out, talking and sharing, with many smiles along the way. It’s about making one child feel very special. And you’ll feel pretty great too. After the enrollment process, we’ll provide training and match you with a mentee, who shares your interests. As a Mentor, you get to build model airplanes, toss around the football, play computer games, bake some cookies, hang out… whatever! It’s about sharing a little time together – a few hours a week or every couple of weeks will make a BIG difference.

Couples For Kids

In today’s fast paced world, we have a program where you and your significant other can volunteer together! The Couples for Kids program sees couples spend time with a child doing things that you all like to do. Paint a picture, learn to cook gourmet foods or take up golf – you three rule the show, and it is all up to you to decide on. Spend time with your partner and be a big deal in the life of a child at the same time. Click here for more info!

Game On

In this program, we use a mentor approach to provide the boys with information and support to make informed choices about healthy lifestyle practices. Through non-traditional physical activities, complemented with healthy eating information, participants are engaged in life skills, communication and emotional health discussions designed to engage participants in the pursuit of life-long healthy lifestyles. Sessions are loosely structured around four themes: physical activity, healthy eating, self-esteem, and communication skills. Click here for more info!
